CASHING OUT, my newest documentary short, will make its world premiere at the Provincetown International Film Festival (@ptownfilm) this June! At the height of the AIDS crisis, many q***r people—unable to work and with few months to live—sold their life insurance policies to investors for quick cash. CASHING OUT charts the rise and fall of the billion-dollar industry that grew out of their desperation, and spotlights one of its earliest investors: my dad. In the nearly 3 years that I’ve spent working on this project, I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know and film some really incredible people—survivors of the early AIDS epidemic who taught me what it means to fight for love, defy the odds, and insist on a world where dignity is not a commodity. I’m excited for you to meet them too, in my longest (and most personal) film yet. I owe so much to the incredible artists who opened their hearts and poured themselves into this film.
