As health care systems like Emory Healthcare emerged from the unprecedented pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new challenge surfaced behind the scenes: responsibly managing large volumes of unused personal protective equipment (PPE) that was nearing expiration and no longer required for clinical care.

Emory’s Business Operations Department tackled the challenge of dealing with its surplus PPE. The multi-year, large-scale redistribution effort concluded in 2025, redirecting approximately 1,000 pallets of PPE — representing an estimated $10.5 million in inventory value — away from the waste stream and into productive reuse through trusted nonprofit and education partners.

The Emory Soccer Medicine Program is celebrating 10 years of providing specialized care for soccer athletes across Georgia. The milestone comes as Oluseun Olufade, MD, the program’s director, is part of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Tournament Medical Network. The program has grown into the largest of its kind in Georgia, with more soccer-trained providers across more locations than any other health system in the state. ⚽ 🥅

James Nagy, longtime Emory mathematics professor and department chair, has been appointed dean of Emory College of Arts and Sciences for the 2026–27 academic year. Nagy will lead the college while the national search for a long-term dean, launched this spring, moves forward.
