Biomechanics, classical, no gimmicks, quick, easy, smooth - how often do you see these words used in advertisements and social media, accompanied by pictures and videos of horses that are heavy on the forehand, behind the vertical, tracking out behind themselves with no rotation in the spine, step pacing, and pacing with hard, concerned, and dull eyes? These words are often used as a marketing ploy to appeal to people who want to do right by the horse and those who want fast results. It sounds good and draws you in, but the photos and videos never lie, even when the caption does. Social media rewards confidence, not competence. If you say it loud enough, people believe it, and unfortunately, the horse cannot comment to correct you.

Why do people feel led to do this? The horse business is hard, and people want to do what sells. Let's face it, true biomechanics trainers are considered “boring” to watch because real work is slow, quiet, and looks like “not much” for a long time. So, when people don’t get what they want, they move on to the next person who promises the most in the shortest time with the least effort from the rider, all while “doing right by the horse.” Using these words should mean you're accountable to the horse's body, not just trying to impress and lure people in.

For the love of the horse, learn to recognize the difference. The horses will thank you for it🤠
