Achilles Tendon Tear in basketball. In this video I breakdown the MOI {Mechanism of Injury} of an Achilles rupture. This happened during a final four game a few months ago. As soon as this young man went down, I told my wife what had happened, and she begged me not to rewind and watch it on repeat. An Achilles rupture is when too much force is placed on the Achilles’ tendon and it’s torn away from the heel, you can see his calf muscle retract up towards the knee. The reason I’m showing this is to highlight the importance of foot mechanics in athletes. Injuries are more likely to occur when a player is fatigued, has faulty mechanics, or excessive force is applied to a body part.
