Did you know that in some states and localities it is illegal for employers to ask candidates about their salary history? That’s right! Employers potentially put themselves at risk by asking questions that could lead to pay discrimination.
At HCS, we advise employers to keep it simple. Instead, be transparent regarding the education, background and experience needed to be successful in the role. Provide candidates with a clear job description; one that fairly represents your position.
Afterwards, ask the candidate what salary would make them happy coming in the door! Salary conversations shouldn’t feel like a game of chess. ♟ Create an environment for a clear conversation between you and your amazing candidates!
