What is Celestial Communication 02/19/2025

I learned about Celestial Communication in Yoga Training today! It’s a form of moving meditation specific to the Kundalini Yoga Tradition.

This moving meditation has no specific movements. A teacher or leader chooses a favorite mantra and listens for a few minutes. Then you allow yourself to move intuitively with the music of the mantra.

Who isn’t seeking ways to tell our brain that everything will be okay and a lion is not chasing us right now?

Did you know you can naturally signal to your brain that you are safe when feeling overwhelmed or stressed?

Small rituals, from the foods we eat to the herbs we employ, can help calm the nervous system while balancing essential hormones and neurotransmitters that cue safety and relaxation.

Here are a few holistic herbalist tips for sending safety signals to your brain—and what you’re targeting:

🌱 Cortisol (stress regulator): Lowering cortisol levels tells your body to relax. Try Epsom salt soaks and magnesium-rich foods to support the adrenal glands. Adaptogenic herbs like ashwagandha and holy basil gently reduce stress, while barefoot forest walks connect you to the earth, sending grounding signals of peace.

🌞 Serotonin (mood + well-being): Our “feel-good” neurotransmitter thrives on morning sunlight and gut health. Fermented foods nourish serotonin production, while gratitude journaling releases calming vibes. Herbs like lemon balm and St. John’s wort support a balanced mood, soothing both brain and body.

💤 GABA (calming aid): Known as the “relaxation” neurotransmitter, GABA can be boosted with gentle sedative herbs like passionflower and valerian. Try sound baths, deep, slow breathing, and dreamwork rituals—simple yet profound practices for bringing deep calm into the day or night.

💖 Oxytocin (bonding hormone): Eye-gazing, laughter, and animal-assisted therapy are powerful ways to release oxytocin, the “love hormone.” Heart-opening herbs like damiana and rose further support this release, creating a sense of connection and warmth.

If no one told you today, you are loved and supported, and herbs are allies whenever you need a gentle reminder.
