Kemi Community is honored to be part of the Black Maternal Mental Health Virtual Conference, July 17–19.
Our founder, Jennifer Lawrence, will be presenting:
“Resetting the Family Nervous System: Supporting Black Mothers and Families in a Digitally Overstimulated World”
This session will explore how chronic stress, caregiving demands, digital overstimulation, and everyday family pressures can impact Black mothers and families. Jennifer will introduce practical ways families can pause, regulate, reconnect, and create more intentional moments of support.
This work reflects the heart of Kemi Community: creating spaces where families can slow down, engage in meaningful conversation, and strengthen connection.

Session 3: Our Family, Our Song 🎶

Families gathered at DAWA for an afternoon of rhythm, creativity, reflection, and connection.

Together, families painted maracas representing their family rhythm, shared stories, moved together through cadence activities, and spent intentional time connecting across generations.

One of the most meaningful parts of the day was watching families slow down, create together, and make space for joy.

Thank you to the families who joined us and helped bring this experience to life.

Kemi means “you are cared for.” 💚

Each family has their own rhythm.
The way they communicate, move through challenges, laugh together, support each other, and show love.

That’s the inspiration behind our next Kemi session, Our Family, Our Song, happening May 23 at Dawa Studio in Austin.

This experience will invite families into a calm, creative space centered around rhythm, reflection, expression, and connection.
