Being married to this man is a total dream! He truly is my best friend and I’m so thankful to be celebrating 18 years together! He’s pretty crazy about me and I’m pretty crazy about him. He serves our family tirelessly, keeps us laughing with his bad jokes, is always up for an adventure, leads us courageously to follow Jesus, is the best comforter, keeper of our family traditions and has so much belief in me I can hardly understand it. His love for me takes my breath away. And I am so grateful for this life we have built together.

I feel so much tension in the messaging of body positivity and pursuing health. I feel like it’s easy to see it as one or the other. You are either on the side of accepting your body, or pursuing health and fitness. But that hasn’t been my story.

My story has been in the “and”. Coming to a place of being positive about the body I have today AND choosing to contend for my physical health. There’s so much beauty in that space. 2 years ago I found a program that coached me in that “and”. It gave me the tools I needed for a healthy mindset AND tools to help me pursue physical health. I finally knew how to fuel my body in a healthy but targeted way and not from a place of wanting to be a certain size, but instead from a place of wanting to feel good and live a life of freedom, energy and abundance.

This past year I’ve been coaching this same program and it’s been so fun to watch my clients contend for their health in a balanced way. Looking for change in your health? Let me know. Yesterday we celebrated you turning 13!

Dude. You are officially a teenager. I remember when you were two wondering what life would be like when you were this age. At two, you weren’t so sure about me yet. Although you were BFF with Camp already and adored your dad, it would be a while before we would be close. I was unsure what the future would hold but dreamed of what it could be.

E, I love you so much man and I am so proud of who you are. Our relationship may have been a slow burn at first, but since then I know I quickly became your favorite. 😉

I love who God has made you and see the man you are becoming.

- you are such a good brother. Like crazy good.

- you put your heart into every detail of things (and people) that matter to you.

- you love instruction manuals. And as much as I get a kick out of that, I know it’s because you love understanding how things work. That’s so valuable.

- you are adventure seeking. You love trying new things and are up for anything. Bonus points if it scares you a bit.

- you are loyal. Whether it’s is your friends or family, you stick with them, have their back and see the best in them.

I’m soaking up this season with you as I long to remember it all. These days move so dang fast but being your mom is one of my very favorite things so I want to slow down and savor it. God is writing a story with your life E that will no doubt impact the lives of many. I am so grateful to get a front row seat to it all. I love you man.

You are 13 today and I feel like my heart could burst!

When you were little I couldn’t quite imagine what you would be like at thirteen. And if I’m honest, the age/stage itself made me nervous. What would you be like? What would parenting be like? What would our relationship be like? It all felt so fuzzy in my mind.

This morning you woke up a teenager. And I can honestly say that you are so much more than I could have possibly imagined.

- you are a friend to everyone. No matter social norms or cultural expectations.

- you are thoughtful. You see everyone and want to make sure they feel seen.

- you are funny. In the kind of way that lightens a mood or brightens a day.

- you are brave. I’ve seen you face your fears and challenges over and over and you are stronger for it.

- you are loyal. This is so rare in people. Never lose sight of it.

I’m so crazy proud of who you are son. And it is so much fun being your mom.

I’m tempted to tell you to slow down on the whole growing up thing. But by this point I know it’s a lost cause. So instead I’m slowing down so I can soak up every minute I can.

Tonight when you went to bed, I prayed over you. I feel so honored that I get to play this role in your life. Not only do I now know who you are at 13, but the man you will become is not so fuzzy in my imagination. I can’t wait to meet him one day. He’s going to be a pretty great guy.
