Brigitte Bandit, Austin drag queen and LGBTQ+ activist, spoke out against attacks on the LGBTQ+ and drag community at a University Democrats meeting on Wednesday. Bandit discussed recent legislation that targets the communities, including the UT System’s ban on drag performances from campus and Senate Bill 8, which restricts bathroom use in government buildings, and spoke on her experience blending her art with education.

When free speech is under attack, and q***r expression is under attack, community spaces and q***r arts are crucial for celebrating q***r joy and resistance. But for rural Texans, they can be more challenging to find. And in the floods, one of the spaces was severely damaged.
Next Sunday September 28th we are gathering together at Cheer Up Charlies to raise funds for the The Hill Country Arts Foundation Point Theatre which has celebrated and supported the Hill Country q***r community for decades. Performers from the Hill Country will be joining us! And you can too!
We are currently looking for performers interested in taking the stage to donate their time and talents to raise money to fix their theatre space.
