My friend Mike Dillard has a history of being disruptive in business. Over the years I’ve watched him engage three completely separate industries and shake things up in a big way. home-business, financial, and most recently agriculture.

I personally did not see a clear path to a win with this last venture due to the complexity of the project and the need for a significant change in the behavior of the consumer.

However, I did have faith in Mike’s ability to objectively assess his situation and pivot when new information dictated that he do so.

A while back I wrote a post talking about two of the biggest lessons that I have personally learned as an entrepreneur…

1. The ability to quickly recover from setbacks, failed attempts and disappointment.

2. The discipline to course-correct and let go of the past when new information becomes available.

Mike just shared a video about his journey with his latest venture in agriculture. I highly recommend that you watch it.

It’s a textbook example of both lessons.

Mike has one of the shortest refractory periods of any entrepreneur I know. Probably because he remains focused more on the outcome and less on the mechanics of how it must occur.

There’s a saying... When the intention is clear the mechanism will appear. Sometimes the mechanism is found in an unlikely place, such as in a competitors product.

It’s so easy to get hung up on our original vision of how we wanted things to be, or to be stunned into complacency for an extended period of time when disappointments and setbacks occur.

The other lessons that stand out in Mike’s video are about seeking out new opportunities that can have the greatest impact on humanity. The big ones can be found in the area of decentralization. Empowering the masses with choice and shifting power away from the elite few. Great examples are given.
