ABOUT OUR ARTISTS:

Concert cellist Hai Zheng recorded as a soloist with the English Chamber Orchestra in London and the Amatius Orchestra in New York at Lincoln Center. She performed as a soloist with orchestras in Europe, North America, and Asia. She made her European debut at the Oxford Town Hall in England and New York City debut at Carnegie Recital Hall. Her appearances include solo/chamber music concerts at Wigmore Hall in London, and at the Bösendorfer Saal in Vienna. These concerts were highly acclaimed by The New York Times, Oxford Daily Mail, and Strad Magazine. She was the winner of the Feuermann International Cello Competition and has recorded six CDs. Her visits to China have included concerts for the Asia Society in Hong Kong, master classes and recitals at Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Macau conservatories, Chinese Culture University in Taiwan, and a homecoming recital at Gulangyu concert hall at the invitation of the Xiamen University. Her fifth Asia concert tour included recitals and master classes In Bangkok, Thailand, Asia’s International Conservatory in Singapore, and China Conservatory in Beijing. She belongs to the “Notable Women” of the Long Center for the Performing Arts in Austin. She was honored by Austin Mayor and the Austin City Council for 18 years of service as Artistic Director for the Young Musicians Festival Competition. She was invited to serve as a guest judge for the 2024-2025 Colburn- Pledge Music Scholarship Competition by Musical Bridges Around the World (MBAW).

She is featured in season 3, episode 2 of the 2024 release of the Amazon documentary “The Story of Art in America. It is an award-winning docu series created by acclaimed film director Christelle Bois. She has been an Assistant Professor of Music at Southwestern University since 1995 and is also on the faculty at St. Stephen’s School.

Dr. David Utterback is an active collaborative and solo pianist in the Austin area. He is involved in a wide variety of endeavors including chamber music, opera, cabaret, and musical theater. He is the accompanist for Chorus Austin, having recently appeared in their Season of Unity Gala and with their women’s chorus in Holst’s The Planets. He has been a member of the piano faculty of Southwestern University since 1988.

CPC Thursday Noonday Concerts Free Concerts the 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month in person, 12:00pm. Concerts may vary from 30 to 60 minutes, (but longer than 40 minutes will be noted in the notice for the concert,) at Central Presbyterian Church, 200 East 8th St.
