Born free in 1731 on a to***co farm in Maryland, Banneker, a self taught mathematician and astronomer, gained noteriety for building a clock out of wood at age 22.

Banneker’s love for math, puzzles, and problem solving led him to making astronomical calculations that would accurately predict solar eclipses.

Banneker also published yearly almanacs from 1791 to 1802. Throughout his achievements in math and astronomy- Banneker’s clock kept precise time until his death in 1806.

February 15, 1968, Henry Lewis became the first African American director of the New Jersey Symphony making him the first black conductor of a major American orchestra.

Lewis began his musical studies at the age of five. By the age of 16 he played with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He conducted while serving the US Armed Forces in Germany. His musical career spanned over 40 years until his passing in 1996 at age 63.

On this date, inventors William Desjardin and Gertrude E. Downing patented a corner cleaning attachment.
The auxiliary tool was designed to attach to rotary floor cleaning machines. It was meant to clean corners and baseboards creating an easier and more efficient cleaning experience.
