Single Parent Appreciation Day
In 1984, President Reagan signed a proclamation to honor the hard work and sacrifices of single parents.
March 21 is known as “Single Parent Appreciation Day!”
Since my divorce in 1996, it’s been , and me. Through the ups, downs, illnesses, play rehearsals, auditions, choir performances, basketball tournaments, soccer games in the rain, road trips to Yale or Minnesota for a new job.
Even when living far apart, we remain “Team Us!”
There are approximately 17 million (male and female) single parents in the United States and these folks are believed to have incredible, unmatched strength!
They successfully and single-handedly perform a job created for two.
Now, that’s truly a SUPERPOWER!
Single parents are often stigmatized and don’t receive the recognition they deserve.
Whether they are single parents by circumstance or by choice, they deserve love, recognition, support, and celebration!
Take a moment to ENCOURAGE A SINGLE PARENT!
Send a cheerful text, note, online post, or call to brighten the day of a single parent you know.

As you can see, being a singles advocate and enthusiast is not a new “venture” for me. I’ve been in the “trenches” encouraging people who are single to unapologetically live their amazing lives for many years.
I’ve advised single people who want to be in relationships to do their homework, proceed with wisdom and not give in to the societal pressure to “couple up” with any old body just to fit in.
The truth is true even when some can’t handle it. Sometimes, people in relationships don’t recognize the stereotypically hurtful things they do and say to people who are single.
When a single person brings those things to your attention, instead of making excuses, simply say “I apologize.”
Stop trying to “fix” us.
We’re not broken.
We’re not desperate.
We’re not sad.
Big shout-outs to my friends and family who love me for ME and not a relationship status.
Remember, SINGLE is so much more than a relationship status!
