Fostered Growth
Dominique Foster, IHP.
Creatine is one of the most well-studied supplements available, and new research suggests it may offer benefits for women across different stages of life, not just those trying to build muscle.
Here are a few reasons I personally think it’s worth learning about:
1. It helps support muscle strength and preserve lean muscle. Muscle isn’t just about looking good. Maintaining muscle supports metabolism, balance, healthy aging, and the ability to stay active for years to come. This becomes especially important as women age.
2. Research suggests it supports brain health and cognitive function. (This is the big one!!) Your brain uses a tremendous amount of energy. Research suggests creatine may help support cognitive performance, particularly during periods of high mental demand, sleep deprivation, or stress.
3. It can improve exercise performance and recovery.
Creatine helps replenish your body’s quick energy stores (ATP), which can support strength, power, and recovery from resistance training, meaning you may be able to train harder and recover more efficiently.
4. It may play a role in healthy aging. As women approach perimenopause and menopause, maintaining muscle, strength, and physical function becomes increasingly important. When paired with strength training, creatine may help support these goals.
All this to say, there’s no such thing as a fix all supplement, the foundation has to be there before optimization can occur.
If you’re lost on where to start, it may be time to phone a friend (or click the link in my bio!) 😉
