Most people, whether they're old hats in the business or new to the world of SEO, know that keywords are the major ranking factors inside Google's algorithm.

However, keyword research can be difficult and time-consuming.

That's why offering a streamlined service to find the best keywords available for your clients' website is a winner!

You can offer this service for niche sites, Amazon products, PPC, and much more.

How Do You Find The Best Keywords?

When it comes to keyword research, Ahrefs is my go-to tool.

It's quick, easy to use, and you can compile keyword reports in a matter of minutes.

To get started, go to their Keywords Explorer and enter in a few seed keywords.

For example, if your client's business sells pet supplies, you could type in things like...

Select which country the business resides in and hit search.

Then select the Metrics tab-

From there, you can see the keyword difficulty, search volume per month, and a bunch of other information.

If a keyword has a decent search volume and is relevant to the business, save it to a keywords list.

Don't dismiss a keyword just because it has a low search volume -

if it's mega-relevant to the business, add it to your list anyway.

Remember, search volume isn't the only factor when selecting keywords.

Now that you have your list of seed keywords, you can look for other ideas.

Select one of these options from the sidebar (I usually go with "All")...

Because Ahrefs has such a large database of keywords, you'll get an absolute ton of results - way too much to work through!

However, if you play around with some of the filters, you can narrow the results down.

I usually filter the keyword difficulty to 10 or less...

From there, you can work through the results and add anything that looks good to your list.

Once your keyword list is complete, you can send it to your client on Fiverr and start building your reputation as a keyword research expert!

How Do I Find My Competitors Keywords & Backlinks

There are a few different tools you can use to do this.

But let's start with Ahrefs to find your competitors' best keywords.

To get started, enter your competitor's domain into Ahrefs Site Explorer...

Then go to the Organic Search report and select Top pages-

You will see a list of your competitors main ranking pages...

Along with a list of the top ranking keywords for those pages-

You can even go one step further...

And find every keyword that each page is currently ranking for and you can see how much traffic it drives.

Easy!

Other Helpful Tools

Another great tool to find out a competitor's keywords and backlinks is SEMrush.

To get started, enter the competitor's domain into the Domain Overview search (without the https://)...

You will then see the overview full of useful stats.

Scroll down to the Top Organic Keywords section and click View Full Report-

Then you have access to all the keywords that the competitor is currently ranking for and a bunch of other useful info like traffic, search volume etc..

If you go back to the dashboard and scroll a little further down you will see the Backlinks-

Click View Full Report and you will then have access to all the competitors backlink information too.

It really has never been easier to spy on competitors with Ahrefs and SEMRush.

And while I appreciate these aren't free tools - they do make executing gigs as easy as a couple of clicks.
