It can be really challenging to consisently pay conscious attention to the thoughts our autopilot mind plays day in and day out. I remember when I started on my awakening path over 20 years ago. In the beginning it was like I was beating a dead horse. No matter how much I tried to change my thoughts the same old s**t would keep replaying over and over.
It took me quite some time to understand that I didn't need to try and force my mind into submission or fearfully replace negative thoughts with more positive ones when I was able to catch them.
It was really about letting go of the energy and emotion tied to the thoughts.
That's really the key. Thoughts + emotions create a powerful intention that can draw experiences to us.
When I started practicing becoming aware of my thoughts and simply allowing the thought to come and go without an emotion tied to it, my mind made space for me to introduce new thoughts that had a better emotional resonance.
Instead of being the harsh, reprimanding critic of my mind I became the curious, impartial observer and was able to relax into the experience of retraining my mind and body to align with seeds of love and gratitude instead of weeds of judgement and shame.
