Back this Friday to share some personal details. I was recently asked how I would describe my outlook on life. Am I a pessimist, optimist, or realist? As a lawyer, I am trained to be cautious and to think of every possible action, resulting consequence and best AND worse case scenarios in order to protect my clients. And with that said, there is a certain degree of ‘healthy’ pessimism that I believe all lawyers should possess. However, my solution-oriented work style is unique and often has an optimistic edge. For instance, I am always looking to mitigate the risks for my clients, but I also often recommend taking certain calculated risks during the legal process. I pride myself on regularly presenting creative solutions to solve complex legal problems when I believe the end result will be worth it. Yet what really stands out to me above all else is how practical I am, especially when facing crisis situations. On a personal level, but similar to my professional style, no matter what issue or opportunity is presented, I always listen first, ask questions next and then give an honest assessment. I consistently take the path that makes the most practical sense for everyone I care about who is involved.
