Funduk sent us a few new photos.

Not perfect “adoption announcement” photos, but honestly, I don’t even care. He is safe. He is home. That is the whole point.

Some of you may remember him. Funduk was the gentle boy who kept getting hurt at the shelter. He was not looking for trouble. If anything, he had a special talent for appearing exactly where trouble was happening and somehow putting himself right in the middle of it.

He was hurt more than once, and after the last time there was simply no safe place left for him there. To protect him, they had to put him in a small cage.
For many dogs, leaving the shelter means a chance at something better.
For Funduk, it meant staying alive.

Thanks to one amazing person who helped us cover his travel, we were able to take him out, move him to safe boarding, and then send him to Europe, where he was adopted.

I keep thinking his life was saved twice.
Once when he was a puppy who couldn’t walk, and people helped him stand on his feet. And then again when he was taken out of the shelter before the next trouble could happen.

A home means different things for different dogs.
For Funduk, it means no cage for protection. Just peaceful open space.

What gets me about Fenya is how unlikely this was.

Back in April 2025, she was lying on the street with both front legs snapped at the shoulders. We didn’t know if she would keep her legs or make it through the surgeries. We didn’t know if she would ever walk normally again.
And adoption wasn’t even on our minds then.
We were thinking about pain meds, x-rays, infection, bone grafts, and whether her bones would heal at all.

But Fenya did heal. Completely. Today she runs, probably with even more enthusiasm than before.
After everything she went through, Fenya spent more than a year at the shelter. She turned out to be the kind of dog who can squeeze happiness out of almost nothing. Simply not being alone anymore kept her smiling.

But dogs like Fenya usually don’t get chosen locally. No breed. Scars. Orthopedic surgeries. A long medical history. Dogs like that are easy for people to pass by. We always hope for a reliable local home first, of course. Unfortunately, for dogs like Fenya, that chance often never comes.
But thanks to the internet, Fenya was seen somewhere else. Not as a sad story. Just as Fenya. The sweet girl who always wanted to be close. The one who kept trusting people even though she had every reason not to.

Now Fenya has started a new chapter in Europe.
She finally gets to just be someone’s dog.
And we couldn’t be happier knowing she’s all set. ❤️
