Photos from Big Little Life Animal Rescue's post 05/24/2026

We received these photos yesterday and a note that this dog had been lying in this puddle of dirt for days, unable to get up. In 85 degree heat. Right behind her is an active train station. And people just kept moving around her.
When our volunteer rushed to pick her up, station workers said she had been there for days.
Five days.
Trains came and went. People passed her. Workers saw her every day. Nobody moved her into shade. Nobody gave her water. Nobody stopped.
She was dying right there in plain sight.
When we picked her up, maggots were crawling out through her skin. Eating her alive while she was still breathing. Her hind legs are not moving and we still do not know why.
We named her Naida.
A vet examined her at the house and already found swelling in her abdomen. Her bloodwork shows severe inflammation and damage throughout her body.
For hours a friend groomer worked to remove maggots from her wounds. When Naida was finally placed into warm water, she fell asleep instantly. The kind of sleep that comes after a body has been exhausted for far too long.
Her body has so many holes in it she looks like a sieve. Her skin is raw and destroyed from days of being eaten alive while unable to move.
Today she is resting. On Monday we are taking her to a clinic to try to understand everything that is happening to her body. She is an older girl and we do not know what her life looked like before she became a stray. But we can still change what happens next.
Please help us be the people who finally stopped.

For those who want to see more of Naida’s condition and rescue process, we uploaded the videos here (warning: graphic content):

Update on Plushy

When she arrived to a clinic, her wound cleaned and treatment has begun.
The clinic carefully removed dead tissue, cleaned the chemical burns, and started intensive wound care, antibiotics, pain management, and daily bandage changes. Her road ahead will not be short, but she is finally safe and receiving help.
But during her examination, the doctors found that Plushy has mammary gland tumors. One entire side will need to be removed and sent for histology. The veterinarian told us the tumors do not look benign.
Plushy was originally part of our TNVR program near Tula. She was dumped there long ago by alcoholic owners and survived among the stray dogs we were feeding and sterilizing this winter. She was still waiting for her turn when we found her burned.
It feels like lately every dog we save comes with something hidden inside them. Cancer. Neurological issues. Old head trauma. Things you cannot always see right away, but things that are just as serious, painful, and expensive.

We are tired. But we are not giving up on Plushy.
Please help us help Plushy

Plushy did not choose this life. (Video in comments)

She is one of the stray dogs from our TNVR pack near Tula. A quiet, gentle girl who would always come to greet us. A little shy, but always soft, always grateful for a bit of food and a kind word. She survived this brutal winter because we fed them. We sterilized almost everyone, a big deal to avoid constant suffering.
But we couldn’t protect her from everything. (from people)
A few days ago, Plushy stopped coming. She was gone.
When we finally saw her again, she could barely stand.
She has a large chemical burn covering her side.
The veterinarian believes it was caused by acid or a similar substance.
We don’t know who did this.
We don’t know why.
But we see what it did to her. She is in pain.
And she is fighting to stay alive.

We rushed her to the clinic. She will need surgery and intensive wound care to survive.
And we will not return her back to the streets. Not after this.
There is nowhere safe for her to go. No foster options in the area. When she is stable, she will have to stay at the clinic’s pet hotel while she heals.
This means her care will be long, and it will be costly. But leaving her behind is not an option.
There are things we cannot control. The cruelty, the neglect, the life these dogs are forced into.
But this — this moment — we can change.
Please stand with us and help us save Plushy.

UPDATE: Rescued 😻

🐱 Urgent: Gigi Needs a Home 🐱

Some of you may remember the recent situation with Cherri. From that same home, we also need to try and find a safe place for a young kitty, Gigi.
This is the only photo we have of her right now, but we didn’t want to wait—she needs a home by May 10.
She is a sweet young girl, and we really want to make sure she doesn’t end up in a shelter.
If you can foster or adopt, or help us share her post, please reach out.

Let’s help Gigi land safely, just like Cherri did. 🏡🐾
