I can count on one hand the amount of dads I've served who thought they'd enjoy having photos taken.

However, I definitely need more than two hands to count how many times their wives have texted me to tell me that their partners expressed after the session that they were surprised at how easy (or dare I say "FUN") their session with me went.

The secret(s)? Engagement. Avoiding stuffy, unnatural poses. A sense of humor. And finally: recognition that no matter how important moms are, DADS ARE IMPORTANT, TOO. There, I said it.

If I have to choose between toddler laughter and toddler cooperation, laughter wins every time. Sometimes the best smile a toddler is willing to give is a fake cheesy smile. I'd rather capture a candid, fun-filled moment like this than that the dreaded "cheeeeeeese!" Who's with me?

Clients ask me all the time if their dog can be part of their session. My answer is always yes! HOWEVER, if it's an outdoor session, I highly recommend bringing along an extra person who can hold onto the dog(s) after we get some family shots with them. I've found that it sets everyone—the family and the dog(s)—up for success.
