I’ve learned the hard way: a tight DIY run needs both heart and a plan. Here’s a quick checklist to keep your show bold and sane — from one DIY artist to another.
• Schedule rehearsal blocks, not just hours — trust me, run-throughs with pauses save panic.
• Reserve tech time in the actual space (soundcheck ≠ setup).
• Keep cue sheets simple and shareable.
• Lighting: prioritize focus over fancy — two practical specials beat a mystery rig.
• Sound: mic backups and level notes for each song/scene.
• Props/backstage storage: label EVERYTHING.
• Design on a budget: silhouettes, projections, and texture do heavy lifting.
Outcomes? Smoother runs, clearer artistic vision, and happier audiences (and you’ll sleep better). Want my full kit list and templates? Visit https://wix.to/mOOfqL4 and let’s make your next run sing. 🎭✨
19 days left to fulfill the Kickstarter to bring a movement that defies all the gatekeepers of theatre. And yeah go watch my full reaction to Aisha Badru on my YouTube channel. Link to both (my website acts as a linktree) in bio.
Last year around this time the NEA cancelled its grants to artists. Donating to the Kickstarter for House Plays ensures equal opportunities for unconventional creatives everywhere as a way to stick it to the powers that be. L1nk in bio.

I’ve learned a few grant-writing moves that actually work for indie theatre-makers and small bands — and yes, they’re simpler than you think. 1) Lead with a vivid artistic statement that shows why your project matters (not just what it is). 2) Build a budget with funder-friendly line items—clear fees, production costs, and outreach expenses that prove you’ve thought it through. 3) Show simple evidence of impact: turnout numbers, press clips, or testimonials that make your case feel real. I used these early on to win production opportunities, and now I help artists turn ambition into fundable clarity. Want the full breakdown and examples?
