On last week's episode of Edge of Excellence, we sat down with Jacob Hesterman, Ph.D., Chief Data Officer at Ratio Therapeutics, to talk about how his team built a scientific data foundation from scratch.

A few things that stood out:

→ They started by sitting down with every discipline and asking: what experiments do you run, what are the inputs, what are the outputs?
→ It took ~2.5 years for buy-in to become universal.
→ The moment it clicked: a scientist asked a complex cross-study question and got an answer in under an hour.
→ Their data infrastructure now auto-generates weekly PowerPoints, pushes results to Slack in real time, and has positioned Ratio for both traditional data science and AI.

Jacob's advice for getting started: don't try to go from zero to 60. Find the single most important rate-limiting step, tackle it first, and build from there.
