DJ BRIAN HALLIGAN
A Lowell native and a graduate of Massachusetts College of Art, Halligan is a veteran of Boston nightlife as a DJ, light man, bartender and patron. He cut his teeth learning at the feet of some of Boston’s best first generation DJs, and spent much of his youth buying records and listening to the various DJs who hung out at Caril Mitro’s legendary record store Vinyl Connection. Modest DJ success followed, including a memorable summer at The Club in Ogunquit before taking a decade long hiatus. But music had always been a passion of his, and in 2010 he returned to DJ life after being inspired by the monthly disco party FOXY in Central Square, along with other emerging and established indie nights like Videodrome Discotheque, Fur & Gold, Group Hug and Heroes.
He has since deejayed locally at River Gods, Milky Way, Midway Cafe, Machine, Trophy Room, Oberon, The Alley, Club Cafe, ZuZu, The Middle East, Sonia, and the Middlesex Lounge among other venues and private events, both solo and as a part of Plastique with James Derek Dwyer, VI****OR with James Cerne, and as a guest DJ at Group Hug, Boyfriends, Superstition, Traniwreck and Solid Gold Tea at Provincetown’s Boatslip, and held a residency at Cirque/Pub 47 Central in Lynn for 2 years. He recently completed 2 summers as resident DJ of the weekly summer party, Wayback Wednesdays, at the historic A-House in Provincetown. He has guested for Chris Ewen’s own legendary Heroes, the offspring of his equally legendary Manray nights. In 2018 he released a 2 track *sip* EP, produced with local DJ and remixer extraordinaire Curtis Atchison (Midnight Society).
He was a frequent and beloved guest DJ for Harrison Carmichael’s Back2Basics Tea Dance at Club Cafe for 2 summers before assuming the full time residency in October of 2015, where he faithfully and passionately served the community generous portions of classic disco and house music before embarking on his own venture *sip* in October 2017. He frequently invites guest DJs including James Cerne, Adam F., Bricklayer, Houseboi DJs Pussywillow and Char, Brent Covington, and Jimmy DePre. 2019 has a lineup that will include Chris Ewen, Gary Carlow, Reginald Johnson, DJ Taffy, Curtis Atchison (Midnight Society) and others veteran and emerging DJs to be announced. His goal is to continue the historic mission of q***r spaces, most recently pioneered by Michael Flowers and Colby Drasher’s own fe**sh night at Jacque’s Underground, Fascination, of providing a place where the community can celebrate all that came before as well as what lies ahead with the thoughtful curation of local talent.
As it enters its third year, we hope you’ll join us on this journey of musical discovery that is *sip*.
