Jill Lynne Shackett became a teacher in 2001 and taught at South Side School in Bristol, Connecticut. In 2013 at the young age of 35 she passed away unexpectedly. However, her legacy lives on.⁠

Not only has her family established the Jill Lynne Shackett Educational Scholarship Fund at MSCF to assist students who want to be teachers, but they also established the Jill Lynne Shackett Leadership & Learning Award Fund.⁠

This fund was established to honor the students in the school that meant so much to Jill. An annual grant is distributed to South Side School to provide awards to fifth graders moving up to middle school to assist with the transition. Students chosen for the Jill Lynne Shackett Leadership & Learning Award will display a positive attitude, initiative, kindness, participation in school service activities, leadership and respect.⁠

The 2026 awardees were presented with this award at their Moving Up Ceremony last month!

As we prepare for our Scholarship Reception tomorrow, we reflect on the Scholarship Reception that was held 19 years ago. In 2007, the Foundation awarded $138,000 in scholarships at a reception at the Bristol Public Library. This year, we are awarding scholarships totaling $368,000 and will be welcoming over 200 people to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Bristol!
