This new mosaic combines Webb’s observations with NASA's Hubble Space Telescope’s, increasing our understanding of open star clusters NGC 460 and NGC 456.

Open star clusters are made up of dozens to thousands of stars held loosely together by gravity. As clouds of gas collapse, stars are born. And as these young, hot stars expel stellar winds, others collapse, giving rise to more stars.

Hubble’s visible and near-infrared view captures the glowing, ionized gas as stellar radiation blows “bubbles” in the clouds of gas and dust (blue), while Webb’s infrared vision highlights the clumps and delicate structures of dust (red).
