When you step back and consider the devastating losses caused by climate change and extreme weather events just this year, it can be overwhelming. But when we start to feel paralyzed and helpless, we’re inspired by these provocative words from Gus Speth, a top US advisor on climate change:
“I used to think that top environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change. I thought that 30 years of good science could address these problems. I was wrong. The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy, and to deal with these, we need a cultural and spiritual transformation. And we scientists don’t know how to do that.”
We’ve learned over the years that there is no single “right answer” or black-and-white way to create positive progress and spark cultural transformation. Instead, there is a grey area with a massive opportunity and equally massive responsibility. The only wrong choice is not striving to move forward in a constructive direction.
That’s why we work directly with nonprofits and businesses to redefine their industries, reposition them to work sustainably, and reempower them to live out their missions. When companies transform from the inside out, culture will follow.

Twenty years ago, our home city was struck by a tragedy none of us could have foreseen. Today, we focus on the memory of those we lost on September 11, 2001, and in the days and years that followed.
We encourage you to join us in observing six moments of silence today (displayed in EST):
8:46 a.m.: Flight 11 hits the north tower
9:03 a.m.: Flight 175 hits the south tower
9:37 a.m.: Flight 77 hits the Pentagon
9:59 a.m.: The south tower collapses
10:03 a.m.: Passengers launch a counterattack against hijackers of Flight 93. The plan crashes in an empty field in Pennsylvania.
10:28 a.m.: The north tower collapses
To honor the fallen, we must continue to educate ourselves and future generations about this dark day in our history. We must continue to amplify the voices of those we lost. We must speak out against hatred, oppression, and violence.
May this anniversary serve to remind us that we are here to work together to build safer, more vibrant world for the next generations.
