There's obviously more than 3, so what would you add to the list?

I was too busy enjoying & entertaining nearly 40 family & friends here at the lake to document the day with pictures. (Which actually was very nice!)

But, the ski parade & boat parade were great as we celebrated 250 years as a nation! And the fireworks were spectacular around the lake after dark!

The night of the 3rd we took a pontoon ride around the lake to see everyone's decorations, and to anchor up with all the other boats to enjoy a concert put on by our neighbors.

We saw lots of great & creative decorations as we circled the lake, but for me, the 25 foot high inflatable American Eagle in a Flag tuxedo at our friends, the Meyer’s, took the cake.

'Merica! 🇺🇸🤙

Recently my Aunt stopped by and dropped off some old newspapers & clippings she'd saved that contained stories of family members.

Lots of fun memories as we flipped through them. Old family business ads, high school sports achievements, a feature on my parent's marathon running, and this page on our old water ski club.

I've seen many amazing water ski shows at Cypress Gardens, Sea World, Tommy Bartlett Show and more. This was not one of those! 😂

A kid that lived across the lake came home from college one summer & decided to start a water ski club. He cobbled together a crew of us kids from high school down to elementary school. With the support of some parents & a few family ski boats, we started to practice multiple times a week.

It was a summer of creating memories, making friendships, lots of tumbles & falls, and improving our water ski skills.

The next year we bought a used ski jump & built on what we'd begun the year before. Then over the 4th of July weekend in 1984 we put on our first water ski show for our small town. My Dad did a headstand on a saucer, I jumped over my best friend & many other stunts were performed by family & friends.

We obviously weren't trying to compete with the big shows. We didn't have that kind of budget, equipment or talent. But we had fun, the community enjoyed it, and our local paper snapped a few photos.

For many years, we just cherished the memories. But thanks to my Auntie Muriel, we now have a newspaper story to help us remember.

What memories are you creating this summer with your family & friends?

One thing I've noticed over the years is that most business owners aren't looking for more complexity.

They're looking for ways to:

• Take care of their employees
• Control costs
• Reduce headaches
• Improve outcomes

Simple sounds easy.

But simple is often hard to find.

That's why I enjoy helping employers evaluate options they may not know exist.

Sometimes a short conversation is all it takes to uncover opportunities worth exploring.

Feel free to message me if you'd like to compare notes.

Here on the lake, when the North wind blows, it usually delivers "gifts" to our South shore.

This spring, as the ice went out, it was a dead goose on my beach. And a dead trumpeter swan on my neighbors.

Often, it's dead fish. Some small, some large.

On Father's day, it was a very large Northern Pike head, with a decent-sized, half-eaten walleye. Tail sticking out of the mouth, head in it's belly.

The Pike's head measured about 6" wide & 10" long. A.I. says that's a 40" fish at 15-20 lbs. Walleye appeared to be 18-20".

There's a story here...and probably a lesson too.

Don't bite off more than you can chew?

His eyes were bigger than his stomach?

What do you think the lesson is? 🤔

I'd love to hear what you think!

Growing up, my parents exposed us to just about every outdoor activity imaginable.

Snow Skiing.
Waterskiing.
Sports.
High Adventure.
Travel.

If it sounded adventurous & adrenaline-charged, we probably tried it.

At the time, I was just having a ton of fun.

Now I'm realizing all those activities & adventures apparently came with a long-term payment plan. 😂

Today, at 59 years old...

The neck reminds me.
The knees remind me.
The back reminds me.
Other joints occasionally send reminders too.

But honestly, I wouldn't change a thing.

Most of the confidence, resilience, faith and life lessons I carry today came from overcoming fear, trying hard things, falling down, getting back up, and doing it again.

The aches & pains may be real.

But so are the memories!

Living in Minnesota, I’m no stranger to changing seasons.

But as I get older, I’m becoming much more aware of seasons in life.

Years ago, I was working long hours in youth ministry, pouring into students and families because I genuinely loved helping and serving people.

Today I still get to help and serve people… just in a different way through business, consulting, and connecting companies with solutions that improve the lives of both employers and employees.

Different season.
Same mission:
Serve people well.
