Texas Rancher
Follow my day to day life on a real working cattle ranch in rural East Texas. Hey y'all! My name is Joe McClung. The Texas Rancher is much bigger than me!
Just when I thought we were finished with calving season! Last year my neighbor’s black angus bull jumped the fence and had access to the Waygu herd. His owner and I decided to leave him in there for a few days. The gestation period ended in the 10th of May. We’ve had three calves born this week. It’s likely these calves were sired by him. This is the best video of a cow giving birth I’ve had the opportunity of capturing. It took a while, so the video is edited down by about 2 minutes. This video is almost in real time. Unfortunately I was not recording when the calf dropped. Just when I sat the phone down she spit it out! It still amazes me how much attention to detail out God and savior created life. HE created the perfect design for every single living thing.

Scenes from working cows today. It was a long day. Shawn and Audie came to help. We got a lot done. Toby did great and I got to try out my new saddle. Good times!

Pics from today. JR’s trip to the vet, X-rays, injections and Coggins Test. He got a good prognosis. JR will need some time to rehab and put weight. He has some slight nerve damage in his jaw but he should heal up fine. He will also be seeing an equine chiropractor and acupuncturist soon that will help with his nerve damage. The doctor thinks he should be back to working shape by the end of summer or possibly sooner. All of this is due to an incident that happened last year while he was in the care of someone else. We don’t know for sure exactly what happened. Thankfully he will be okay in due time.
