Where Ancestors Ride the Wind

She rides where old prayers
still move in the tall grass,
where the earth remembers
the names spoken before birth.

Her horse carries thunder
in its white sacred body,
its hooves striking songs
the grandmothers once sang to dawn.

Red paint upon her face
is not war—
it is memory.
It is the fire of those
who would not disappear.

Her braids hold the wind.
Her beads hold stories.
Her spirit leans toward the horizon
where ancestors travel as light.

Above her, hawks circle
like old guardians.
They speak in silence—
Be brave, daughter.
Ride true.
Carry the people forward.

She does not ride alone.
Behind her move the unseen ones,
mothers wrapped in moon smoke,
fathers rising through buffalo dust,
elders walking inside the drumbeat
of her living heart.

The horse knows this road.
It was born in sacred dreaming,
where spirit and flesh
drink from one river.

Together they run
through sun-colored grass,
through memory,
through prophecy.

And when her hair lifts in the wind,
it is the ancestors touching her.
When her eyes lift to the far hills,
it is the old ones seeing through her.

She is woman,
she is prayer,
she is the rider between worlds.

And the earth whispers—

Orca Pod
There are things in this world
that never swim alone.
Orca is one of them.
When one is born,
it is born inside the voice of its mother,
the voice of its grandmother,
the voices of old grandmothers
who have swum in these waters
since before humans knew how to name the sea.
It learns the language of its own pod
a language
no one else on earth speaks,
a language
that will die
if the pod dies.
It does not learn
how to swim alone
because no one teaches it that.
Swimming alone
is not what orcas do.
When one falls ill,
the others slow down.
When one is hungry,
they hunt together.
When a mother loses her child,
the whole pod stays beside her
for weeks,
for miles,
while she carries the small body
through cold water
until she has said
all that she needs to say.
This is not pity.
This is how they exist.
The old ones watched orcas and understood
something the modern world is forgetting:
that there are creatures
who cannot survive alone
not because they are weak,
but because they are made
by a different design
a design
in which I and we
are not two separate words,
but the same breath
spoken in two different keys.
If you have ever felt
you could not do this alone
could not heal alone,
could not be strong alone,
could not carry the weight
the world has told you
you must carry alone
perhaps you are not weak.
Perhaps you are simply a creature
made the way orcas are made.
Perhaps you were born
to belong to a pod,
and what you have been calling failure
is only your body
remembering
it was never designed
to swim alone.

They are somewhere out there,

only you
