Build WITH You Pools
We build WITH YOU so you are never alone!
A big part of our Build With You process is material selection, especially when it comes to color and finish choices. In this project, the homeowner had a very specific direction. They wanted a black tile on the spa paired with a marble cap to give it a more grounded, modern accent, something that feels clean but still stands out in a subtle way.
For the pool itself, the goal shifted toward contrast. Instead of keeping everything uniform, we went with a blue glass tile and a full waterline tile selection that would really pop once the water is in. That contrast between the spa and pool helps separate the spaces visually while still keeping the overall design cohesive.
These decisions might seem small during the planning phase, but they end up defining the final look more than almost anything else. If you want to see what a custom material setup like this would look like for your own project, you can check it here: https://vist.ly/584j3

A lot of homeowners assume pool pricing is mostly about size, but there are several factors that influence the total cost of a custom build. Pool size and depth are part of it, but the final price is also shaped by design choices, materials, and how complex the overall project becomes.
Interior finishes like tile, plaster, or pebble can shift cost depending on the level of customization. Decking and surrounding hardscape also play a major role, especially when the backyard design includes multiple zones or detailed layouts. Water features like spas, waterfalls, and sheer descents add both material and installation considerations that affect the overall budget.
Other major factors include excavation difficulty, backyard access for equipment, and equipment upgrades like pumps, heaters, and lighting systems. As the design becomes more customized, the coordination required increases, which is why two similar-sized pools can still have very different final costs.

We worked with Joey on a full backyard project in Arizona after he went through interviews with five to six of the largest pool companies in the state. The biggest difference he noticed wasn’t design or materials, it was how pricing was presented. Most of the larger bids came in significantly higher, even for similar scopes of work.
One of the key reasons they decided to move forward was transparency. Instead of guessing or relying on bundled estimates, they used our online pricing tool to align the design with a clear budget from the start. That made it easier to understand what was possible without having to redesign the project multiple times or cut features later.
In the end, the total difference between bids came in around $75,000 to $100,000, depending on how each builder structured their pricing. Having a clearer view of costs upfront helped the project stay within budget while still delivering the backyard they originally wanted. We love what we do because every project is different. Every homeowner has a different vision, a different backyard, and a different way they want to use their space. Taking those ideas and turning them into something real never gets old.
For us, it’s about more than building pools. It’s creating places where families gather, friends spend time together, and homeowners actually enjoy being outside. Whether it’s a custom pool, spa, outdoor kitchen, pergola, fire pit, or a complete backyard transformation, the goal is always the same: build something that adds value to everyday life.
Seeing an empty or underused yard become someone's favorite place at home is what makes this work rewarding. If you're thinking about creating your own dream backyard, you can get an estimate here: https://vist.ly/57jbq

Summer in Arizona comes fast, and backyard projects take time to plan and build properly. That’s why timing matters just as much as design when it comes to custom pools and outdoor living spaces. Starting early helps avoid peak-season delays and keeps the project moving at a steady pace.
We handle everything from custom pool installation to full backyard transformations, including outdoor kitchens, turf, pavers, spas, and complete outdoor living upgrades. When everything is planned together, the space feels more cohesive and tends to be more cost-efficient compared to adding features separately over time.
For many homeowners, starting before the busiest months also opens up better scheduling and fewer interruptions during construction. If you want to see what your backyard project would look like and what it would cost, you can check it here: https://vist.ly/57ee7
Most people in Arizona ask the same question at some point, what does a full backyard actually cost. When you break it down, it starts to make more sense. A barbecue setup can come in around $2,000, a media wall around $3,000, and a cantilever pergola with a rain curtain can reach $15,000 depending on design. The pool itself, especially something like a 120 perimeter layout with a table and raised spa, can land around $70,000, while a raised fire pit area might add another $10,000.
The numbers add up quickly, and that’s usually where confusion starts. A lot of homeowners are given one big bundled price without really seeing how each feature contributes to the total. When you actually separate everything out, it becomes easier to prioritize what matters and where adjustments can be made without sacrificing the overall design.
That’s the reason we built an online estimator, so you can see real numbers based on your own backyard instead of guessing or relying on inflated quotes. If you want to figure out what your project would cost, you can check it here: https://vist.ly/579rt

We often see homeowners surprised by how much pricing can vary between pool builders for the same type of project. In many cases, the difference isn’t in the design or materials, it comes from how costs are structured and where markups are applied throughout the build.
When unnecessary layers are removed from the process, those savings can be significant. For some projects, that can mean up to $20,000 staying in the homeowner’s budget instead of being absorbed into inflated pricing structures. That money can then go back into upgrades like a spa, outdoor kitchen, or additional backyard features, or simply reduce the overall cost of the project.
The goal is simple: keep pricing clear and let homeowners decide how to use their budget instead of losing visibility into where it goes. If you want to see what your pool or backyard project would cost, you can check it here: https://vist.ly/575d5
One of the more interesting parts of this build was the oversized Baja shelf with integrated bubblers. It’s one of those features that seems simple at first, but it completely changes how the pool gets used. Instead of just being a visual add-on, it becomes a place to actually sit, relax, and spend time without being fully in the water.
We also used a custom wood-look tile on the Baja shelf, which helped tie the whole backyard together. That detail pulls in the surrounding materials and connects the pool to the rest of the outdoor space in a way that feels more intentional. It’s a small design choice, but it ends up making a noticeable difference in how cohesive everything looks once it’s finished.
Features like this are usually where pricing starts to climb with traditional builders, especially when you go custom. The structure we use keeps those options open without the cost getting out of control. We see a lot of backyards that start off as unused space, just dirt, patchy grass, or areas that never really get touched. The difference happens when the design isn’t just about filling space, but about creating zones that actually serve a purpose in daily life.
When a backyard is planned with intention, every part of it starts to work together. The pool becomes a focal point, seating areas turn into gathering spots, and features like fire pits, turf, and outdoor kitchens create reasons to actually spend time outside. It stops feeling like separate upgrades and starts feeling like one connected environment.
That shift is what turns a basic yard into something that feels like a resort you can use every day. If you want to see what a transformation like this would cost for your own backyard, you can check it here: https://vist.ly/56r3h

One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make before building a pool is assuming the first quote they receive is the only option. Pool pricing can vary dramatically between builders, and without understanding how those numbers are structured, it’s easy to end up paying far more than necessary.
Many homeowners never see how contractor markups are applied throughout a project, and large upfront deposits have become so common that people rarely question them. The result is often less control over the process, less visibility into costs, and fewer opportunities to make informed decisions about where their money is actually going.
At Build With You Pools, we believe homeowners should have a clear understanding of pricing from the beginning. More transparency means better decisions, better control, and often significant savings without sacrificing quality.
