Drayton Hall
America's oldest preserved plantation home open to the public. Circa 1738.
Madison is back from vacation and we’re officially underway with Phase III of the Great Hall Ceiling Preservation Project.
Richard Marks Restorations employee and former intern Madison Pinion is installing an overhead shoring beam in the cellar of Drayton Hall. This marks the first step in providing structural support for the compromised floor joists beneath the Upper Great Hall, helping stabilize the historic structure as preservation work continues.
Every phase of this project represents another important milestone in ensuring Drayton Hall’s preservation for generations to come. This project is supported by the The Decorative Arts Trust .
Today, in honor of the 250th anniversary of Carolina Day, we’re proud to celebrate with complimentary admission to Drayton Hall.
We are grateful for the incredible response; today’s Free Community Day is officially sold out! If you weren’t able to join us, don’t worry. We’ll be announcing additional free admission days in the near future.
Today’s Free Community Day is generously sponsored by Cindy and Ben Lenhardt. Their support helps make Drayton Hall’s history accessible to our community, and we’re deeply grateful for their generosity.
Happy Carolina Day!
Congratulations to Madison Pinion on completing 300 hours as an intern with Richard Marks Restorations!
During her internship, Madison is gaining hands-on experience across several areas of historic preservation, including 60 hours of plaster repair and paint removal, 40 hours of historic building maintenance, and more than 200 hours working on the Great Hall ceiling project at Drayton Hall.
Madison has demonstrated exceptional promise in the field of historic preservation. She has a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of the work at hand, and an impressive ability to retain building knowledge, construction techniques, and project logistics.
Her internship included work on three significant preservation sites with Richard Marks Restorations: 13 East Battery, 39 East Bay, and Drayton Hall.
Madison will continue working with the team at Drayton Hall until she returns this fall to pursue her master’s degree in Historic Preservation at Clemson University. Her goal is to complete another 300 hours before classes begin.
Congratulations, Madison!
