Physical therapy with specialization in pelvic floor

“Failure to progress” ➡️ I hate this terminology! This describes what happens when baby doesn’t descend into the pelvis or vaginal canal, often leading to a cesarean birth.

Picture this: Dilation progresses slowly, stalls or never reaches 10cm. Mom pushes and pushes and pushes with no sign of baby. Physical and emotional exhaustion become overwhelming and Mom feels as if she has failed at childbirth. ⤵️

Cesarean section birth does not indicate failure. They are sometimes necessary in situations during which baby and/or mother are at risk and lives must be saved!

Failure to progress is the #1 reason for cesarean section births and it is one that can be avoided through education and preparation. YOU have not failed, rather your healthcare system failed to prepare you with tools and knowledge that may have lead to a smoother childbirth experience under the circumstances you hoped for.

If you are expecting and are hoping for a vaginal birth, reach out for more info on how to reduce your risk of an unplanned cesarean section.
