The same way the sunblock soaked into the tips of these hair extensions ...
A summer must read for extensions wearers.
You can absolutely ruin your hair extensions with the wrong sunscreen… and most people have no idea until their blonde turns pink, peachy, orange, or dull.
One of the biggest causes?
❌ AVOBENZONE.
Avobenzone is a chemical UV filter found in many sunscreens. When it mixes with minerals, salt water, chlorine, sweat, or hard water — it can react with extension hair and cause discoloration, dryness, staining, and buildup. Blonde extensions are usually affected the fastest, but all extension hair can become coated, heavy, tangled, and damaged over time.
This is exactly why extension aftercare matters!
Not all sunscreens are extension safe, just like not all shampoos, oils, or styling products are extension safe.
If you wear extensions, especially blondes:
✔️ Keep sunscreen off the hair itself
✔️ Apply carefully around the hairline
✔️ Wash after pool/ocean exposure
✔️ Follow your stylist’s product recommendations
✔️ Use extension-safe SPF whenever possible
Extension-safe sunscreen options we recommend:
• Supergoop! Mineral Sheerscreen SPF 30
• EltaMD UV Physical SPF 41
• Colorscience Sunforgettable Total Protection Face Shield
• Blue Lizard Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen
• Thinksport Safe Sunscreen SPF 50+
• Bare Republic Mineral Sunscreen Lotion
• Sun Bum Mineral SPF 30 Lotion
• Babo Botanicals Sheer Mineral Sunscreen
• CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen
• La Roche-Posay Anthelios Mineral SPF 50
Healthy extensions aren’t just about the install…
They’re about what happens AFTER you leave the salon
Thank you for this informative post!!

If great installs automatically led to fully booked extension schedules every talented stylist would be booked out months in advance.
But that’s not how it works.
The real shift happens in the consultation.
That moment when a client is sitting in the chair, saying things like:
“I’ve been thinking about extensions…”
“I’m just curious…”
“I don’t know if it’s too much…”
That’s the moment that matters.
Not through pressure, not through “selling.”
But through: asking the right questions
*actually listening
* explaining things in a way that makes sense
*guiding the conversation with confidence
Because let’s be honest…most clients aren’t saying no, they’re just internally debating:
maintenance, cost, commitment…all at once 😅
When they feel clear, comfortable, and taken care of
the decision becomes much easier.
If there’s been a pattern of “almost bookings” or clients who seem interested but don’t follow through, it's rarely the quality of the work.
Sometimes it’s just that one conversation that needs a little refinement.
If you’re ready to elevate your consultations,
send me “CONSULT” I’d love to help you refine it 🤍
