Charlotte-Mecklenburg ranked 90th out of 100 in the Trust for Public Land's annual ParkScore ratings — and the biggest factor is access. Most residents here don't live within a half-mile walk of a park, which is a real barrier for people without cars.
That said, our parks are genuinely remarkable. Mecklenburg County's park system spans 22,000 acres, with dozens of playgrounds, athletic fields, splash pads, nature preserves, and more.
Partners For Parks is committed to advocating for better access so that everyone — no matter where they live or how they get around — can enjoy the green spaces this community deserves.

✈️One of Mecklenburg County’s most unique destinations is the CLT Airport Overlook.
This small but mighty park by Charlotte Douglas International Airport has a playgrounds, lots of picnic tables, and plenty of benches to sit and watch planes take off and land — plus one of the best views of the uptown skyline!
