Ever heard of the 3-3-3 rule of adopting a dog (or cat)? The idea is that it takes a dog, at the very least, 3 days to decompress after adoption. Use this time to allow your dog to adjust to their new surroundings. The next 3 weeks should be used for bonding and training and the following 3 months for continued socialization and training. Get it? 3 days-3 weeks-3 months. IT DOESN’T HAPPEN OVERNIGHT!! Please don’t set unrealistic expectations for your new dog or cat (this includes puppies and kittens). Don’t commit to a new family member if you aren’t willing to put forth the effort with them.
