Who may you ask is Flourish Interior Design? Flourish was created by local Charlottean, Alison Roosenberg, in 2017. Having initially worked as a fashion designer in New York City, Alison decided to pursue a second career after obtaining her interior design degree. She designed for a high end design build firm in NYC but longed for home and family, she returned to Charlotte and designed for a local firm before creating Flourish Interior Design. She has a thoughtful approach to design, creating beautiful and functional spaces where families can truly flourish. After years of training, she expanded her skills beyond interior remodels and also provides architectural design such as additions and outdoor living spaces. Her work can be found in Charlotte and the surrounding areas most coveted neighborhoods. She believes the designer, homeowner, builders and trades are partners in every renovation and believes a positive and professional attitude makes all the difference. I am working with a new homeowner in the South Charlotte Royden neighborhood and she is interested in potentially installing an illuminated island. This has been a first for me and it has been interesting to learn the process. The stone required for this application is called Cristallo and it is generally accepted to be part of the quartzite family of natural stone. Watch the video link below to learn how this effect is fabricated! The areas that are the most white have a calcium content and will remain opaque. However, the areas that are more grey, have a very crystalline structure and the light will shine through. Slab suppliers have also begun injecting the natural fishers in the stone with dyes such as blue to give more of a range of colors. This is not for everyone as both the material itself and the lighting system are at a premium price but it does make for an interesting feature. This is typically seen in commercial spaces such as bars and restaurants as the full impact is best enjoyed in dim lighting. Home bars can be an especially exciting opportunity for this approach.
