“Black Men Don’t Go To College” . . A couple of days ago, @nytimes released an article identifying the “stubborn” gender gap between Black Men and Black Women enrolling in collegiate education. I sat back and I observed the thinkpieces, the ponderings, and some decent, well researched takes. What I saw mostly? . . Was the idea that Black Men do not go to college due to some ill contrived moral or behavioral failing. Although I recognize the importance of self-determination and personal accountability? To frame the reason that Black Men enroll in college in lower numbers than Black Women as anything other than an ecological outcome? . . Is poorly researched at best, and classist/elitist at worst.
