saw my first daffodil blooms of the season today!!!🌦️🌱🌼
an ode to the daffodil, flower of renewal and rebirth, sure signs of spring’s arrival after the long and winter. daffodil’s sunny blooms have been captivating humans for millennia, and have appeared as symbols in art and mythology since ancient times. persephone was said to be gathering daffodils when snatched away by hades to the underworld. daffodils have been unearthed in frescoes from pompeii and as decorations in ancient egyptian tombs.

some little snippets from brooklyn last week! brooklyn you were so wonderful and welcoming 💖
this was my first art fair in NY and wow what an amazing adventure! i took the train from chicago to nyc (21 hours!!!) and my mom came from virginia to meet me and spend the week in brooklyn. it was so fun- this was her first time coming to one of my art shows since we live so far away from each other. it felt so special for her to see me in my element vending at my favorite craft fair and to see everything that is involved with running my business on the ground!
trip highlights:
❄️i actually loved the 20+ hour train ride. i settled in and got all cozy with my journal and my book and watched the frozen, snow covered world pass me by (playing river by joni mitchell on repeat & wistfully staring out the window of course)
❄️vending at renegade obviously!! such good energy!!
❄️exploring all the cute shops and restaurants in park slope- especially - an all romance themed bookstore!

❄️just hanging out with my mom for a week straight and exploring and eating good food!!

🌸i started this painting in 2023 and just finished it this week!🌸
i set up this still life one early summer sunday after buying the perfect bouquet of peonies and sweet williams from my local farmers market. i started out painting the peonies and the glass jar from life- and i was so happy with how they turned out. but soon the flowers started wilting and so did my confidence!
i got in my own head and was so afraid that if i added in a background and the table that i would ruin the painting that i liked so much. so i sort of abandoned it to the WIP graveyard.
over the next two years, i would pull it out and work on it for a day maybe once every six months, and then take loooongggg pauses to regroup. but i wanted to finish it so i could exhibit it at this weekend, so i pulled out my brushes earlier this week and went into a state of deadline induced hyperfocus…and I FINISHED IT!!!! and im sooooo happy with how it turned out. and it’s even prettier vs in person! come see yourself at The Other Art Fair Chicago this weekend at booth 77💖 20%off tickets in my bio!
