The Richard Gilder Center for Science, Education, and Innovation at was recently featured in ’s “The Best of the New New York Architecture,” a look back on the past decade of buildings that have stood out by “embrac[ing] the city’s topography and spirit.”

architecture critic Justin Davidson notes, “The new Gilder Center — granite on the outside, shotcrete on the inside, with a seductive composition of concavities and curves — comes off as a true New Yorker: defiantly eccentric, rough, show-offy, and smart. And like any true urbanite, it’s squeezed between neighbors, content to be part of something unthinkably vast.”

Just one week left to experience “The Living Orders of Venice,” our contribution to the 2025 Biennale Architettura! Designed for Venice’s native bees, bats, and birds, our colorful nesting structures reveal how architecture can adapt to provide welcoming habitat for urban wildlife.

Bringing our pieces to life took months of collaboration with scientists, engineers, artists, and fabricators. From learning about the needs of each specific species, to generating complex patterns, testing material and structural properties, and marveling at the slow-motion beauty of animals’ behavior, this project was a thorough and joyful team effort.

Outdoors on the Biennale grounds, over 70 citizen scientists have contributed to our field study of the local ecosystem: the first-ever Biennale Bioblitz! Using the iNaturalist app, we’ve logged over 400 observations of animals, plants, insects, and other living creatures on the Biennale grounds; nearly 200 species in total. Don’t miss your chance to take part in the Bioblitz before the Biennale ends on November 23rd! Follow the link in bio 🔗 to add your own discoveries to our growing map of wildlife in Venice.

Thank you .ch for sharing your time, talents, and expertise! And thank you Laura and Tony Davis and Linden Capital Partners, and Ann M. Drake, for believing in this work and supporting it so generously.

We’re thrilled to celebrate the completion of the David Rubenstein Treehouse at Harvard University! Establishing Harvard’s first university-wide conference center, the new building creates a welcoming destination that energizes conversation, fosters collaboration, and embraces its outdoor environment and surrounding neighborhood.

Anchoring the new Enterprise Research Campus (ERC) in Allston, the Rubenstein Treehouse provides event space and meeting amenities for Harvard affiliates, the community, academia, and industry and business leaders from around the globe. The 55,000-sf building’s exposed mass timber structure—the first of its kind on Harvard’s campus—not only reinforces the Rubenstein Treehouse’s identity as a hub for innovation, but also models a more sustainable and healthier way of building for Boston and institutions worldwide. On the inside, design elements, such as a naturally lit central stair and framed views that create the feeling of being “up in the canopy,” work together to evoke the wonder and excitement of climbing into a treehouse.

This project has been a wonderful collaboration with , , , , , , .global, , , , , and many more!
