Safe Space Chico

We've made it to the final stretch of this week's Cooling Center, and once again our community has shown what's possible when neighbors step up for one another.

We're still looking for volunteers and meal providers to help us finish strong. We have volunteer shifts from July 6–10, and we'll also need plenty of hands on Saturday, July 11, as we pack up and move everything out. We are also still seeking meals to be provided for July 9 and 10.

If you've been thinking about getting involved, this is a great time to jump in. A few hours of your time can mean a cool place to rest, a warm meal, a friendly face, and one less thing for our guests to worry about during another week of extreme heat.

Every filled shift and every shared meal helps keep the doors open. Small acts of generosity add up to something remarkable--one meal, one shift, one neighbor at a time.

Today's forecast is another hot one, which means our Cooling Center is an important refuge for neighbors looking for a safe place to cool down, enjoy a meal, and be treated with kindness.

We're still looking for volunteers to help welcome guests, serve food, answer questions, and keep the day running smoothly. No special experience is required—just a willingness to spend a few hours helping your community.

Food, too, is always in high demand--easy to chew fruits, sandwich fixings, soft protein bars, juice boxes, and yogurt go a long way towards helping maintain our friend's sustenance and hydration.

Today's Cooling Center menu includes homemade quesadillas, homemade cookies from a talented local baker, and ice-cold milk—a favorite with many of our guests.

We're also looking for just two more volunteers for our Midday Shift (3:00–5:00 p.m.) and two more volunteers for our Closing Shift (5:00–7:00 p.m.).

We're in need of clothing ahead of Cooling Center returning this weekend! Can you help us?

Like the rest of our beloved community, our hearts are broken by the tragic loss of life at the library yesterday. Please consider dining at Nobby's and The Cheese Steak Shop this weekend, as they are hosting fundraisers for the families of the confirmed fatalities. We also urge folks to take note the library updated their latest information to reflect they will be closed for the foreseeable future.

At this time, the Chico branch library book drop is unavailable. If you have any library materials to be returned, please either hold onto them or visit one of our other 5 branches to return your materials. The Chico branch library will be closed until further notice.
