Found a lost treasure at my Mom’s house.

1995 Jenn.

She was fun.😉

I left him for 11 days.

I went on a trip. To relax. Regulate. Recharge.

I’m still deciding if I accomplished much of any of that. I think I did. At least a little.

Trips like this have always been a necessity for me. I think they should be required for every special needs mom on the planet. It’s never easy to make it happen though, so it rarely happens for many of us.

The childcare. The cost. The time off work.

Obstacles are never ending. So kudos to the villages that step up and help us get the time for ourselves that we so desperately need. For me, the Queen of my village has always been my Mom.

When Jakob was little, I traveled several times a year, always to take a class to learn more about autism. The goal was to return with more understanding and steadfast resilience. Those classes saved me, and in turn made a huge difference for him.

A put-your-oxygen-mask-on-first situation for certain.

Back then, I had no clue how he felt while I was gone. I didn’t know how he did without me there. I wasn’t sure if he even noticed my absence.

Because he couldn’t tell me.

Now he can.

“Mom i am so happy to have you back, i hope you had the best trip ever. Life here without you by my side was weird. I think all went well and this was great practice. But i definitely missed you being there to cheer me on. Thanks for being the best mom ever. Happy mother’s day.”

My current situation.

I waited 22 years to hear it.

Then in the middle of a conversation about toilet paper, I did.

This is that moment.
