I recently had the pleasure of developing a branding strategy for BSHAW Enterprises, founded by Trista Blandshaw. Trista, a former classmate of mine in Launch JOCO and a great friend, is an independent field inspector specializing in property condition assessments, compliance inspections, and aerial imagery services such as drone inspections.

She requested a logo design that was minimalistic yet professional—something timeless and easily recognizable for her B2B market.

"What do I get with one of your brand identity packages and why is it necessary to fill out a design brief?”…A question I get from time to time, but not from this particular client. Design briefs are essential because they provide the key details needed to craft a brand identity that truly represents a business. Branding is more than just a logo; it's visual storytelling/communicating that conveys the essence of an individual, business, or nonprofit.

Without this foundational information prior to designing, I wouldn’t have been able to tell Trista’s story effectively. See, I don’t just create logos—I craft brand identities that speak directly to a niche audience and encapsulates the unique story of a brand.

As I reflect upon the new year, I had planned on creating a cool illustration for New Year’s Eve, but I am completely swamped.

With that being said, I am genuinely truly grateful for the opportunities I’ve have been granted for the previous few months and this year as a whole. I went from struggling to find work this time last year to being completely booked for the next three months.

Man, I am humbly blessed to get to do what I love for a living. A year and a half ago, I couldn’t find a job but I still had a kickass portfolio. So I started my business. I struggled to network, meet new people, and speak in front of large crowds (in a professional manner). If you know me you know what I’m talking about 😂. Getting myself out there in my community and networking has been awesome. Establishing professional relationships and being apart of a community of entrepreneurs here in Clayton has been a rewarding experience.

Now, I am humble enough to know I am not the best designer in the world….far from it and still have a long ways to go to reach my goals; but I have been doing this for 8-9 years and I thought I would never see it pay off.

This year has proved that the previous statement is far from the truth.

If you have a dream and a goal, go for it. It may take 2-8 or even 9 years to achieve it but you can’t expect to ride the wave with your butt in the sand—get up, take action, and face the tide head-on. Success comes to those who dare to move.
