This is why I think seed-grown orchids are so amazing. When it comes to variety, there is an almost infinite number of possibilities you can guess from, but there’s almost never a guarantee that you know exactly how a seedling’s first bloom will look. This is this plant’s first bloom. Several other plants that I have from this cross bloomed with bright yellow-orange flowers and incredible, contrasting spots. However, a few bloomed like this - saturated, charcoal “black” with a stunning star shape. Did I know this was a possibility from this cross? Yes. Did I know this specific seedling would bloom so dark and noble as it is? No, but I am so grateful for it.

I always have to say it because I know someone will claim it: This is not AI, this is not a “GMO Plant.” This is simply the result of some amazing selective breeding over many, many years.
