π‘ BIG NEWS FOR FLORIDA HOMEOWNERS! πΊπΈπ΄
Governor Ron DeSantis has unveiled a proposal that could become one of the biggest property tax changes in Florida history.
If approved, the goal is to provide significant property tax relief for homesteaded (primary residence) homeowners by increasing the Homestead Exemption over time and eventually working toward eliminating property taxes on primary residences altogether. The proposal was announced as part of the Governor's "Save Our Homes from Excessive Property Taxes" initiative.
πΉ What is being proposed?

Increase Florida's Homestead Exemption from $50,000 to $250,000 over time.

The long-term vision is to continue increasing the exemption until property taxes on eligible homesteaded homes are substantially reduced or eliminated.

The proposal applies only to your primary residence (Homestead Property).

βοΈ Supporters say this would provide much-needed relief as homeowners continue facing rising property values, insurance premiums, and overall housing costs.
β οΈ Critics point out that property taxes help fund essential local services such as police, fire departments, schools, parks, roads, and libraries, so any changes would require replacement funding or adjustments by local governments.
π³οΈ Important: This is NOT law yet. The proposal must complete the legislative process and receive at least 60% voter approval on a statewide constitutional amendment before taking effect.
