CLEMSON'S ABSURD RESTRICTIONS 🦍 did you know....once upon a time CLEMSON tried to BAN MEMES about the Chicago Zoo Gorilla, named Harambe?! A Disgrace!
HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED:
2016: Then Graduate Director Brooks Artis emails Resident Advisors instructing them to ban any and all Harambe references posted to doors, windows, hallways, billboards...
REASON: Memes "add to r**e culture" and are "a form of racism"
THREAT: Getting reported for Title IX...even THE WASHINGTON POST called this "apparently unconstitutional"
When asked questions about the ability to enforce this change, Brooks referred to the Clemson University's own Discriminatory Language Policies and stated, “My hopes are that you are being inclusive in your words, whichever you choose to say, so that you are not reported to OCES or Title IX for using bias language against someone.”
THE HYPOCRISY: Harambe memes = Title IX violations and "racism" but faculty celebrating assassination = "First Amendment protection."...This reveals the mindset: Speech is "unprotected" when administrators disagreed with it...and "protected" when they were sympathetic.
What about our Constitutional rights??? Clemson said they reversed the decision after national mockery, but is there any chance this culture of selective enforcement will change?
