Very happy to start the week with a successful bond hearing for my client detained at the T. Don Hutto detention center in Texas. The court granted my very low bond request and my client will soon reunite with her family and pursue her asylum claim while free from detention. “This inexcusable new admissions ceiling is a mere fraction of the number of refugees the United States can and should resettle in a year,” Isra Chaker, of Oxfam America, said in a statement condemning the State Department notice. “During the final year of the previous administration, the U.S. safely and successfully resettled an average of 15,000 refugees every two months.”
