I’m thinking of and thankful for our safety and service crews who are stepping up to respond to this weather emergency over the holiday weekend.

I have asked Ohio’s Attorney General to review and render an opinion on the settlement agreement with the Aleksander Shul passed this evening by council. Too much of this process was and will be hidden from public view.

You didn’t get to see the twenty-five page settlement. Before today, it was discussed almost exclusively in executive session or though the two page summary in today’s meeting packet. By this agreement, there will be no public meetings before the City Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals or Architectural Review Board. The decisions usually made by those public bodies in open meetings will, for the Shul, be made by the Mayor. The approval was made “on emergency,” so you won’t have the opportunity to review or comment before a second reading. The approval becomes effective when signed by the Mayor.
