We just completed our very first Spring Break Camp here at Kids Lead!
The children had so much fun participating in a variety of new and familiar experiences including finger painting, slime making, gross motor play, and sensory play!
AAC devices were incorporated into everything we did—supporting communication throughout—thanks to .
Children built new relationships with peers and got to collaborate in a way that was comfortable to each individual!
And of course, snack time was included to keep our body fueled and ready for fun!

In Floortime and OT, we look at how children play because play is the foundation of regulation, connection, and development. We focus on three key types of play:
1️⃣ Sensory play — regulating the nervous system through joyful movement and connection
2️⃣ Object-based play — exploring toys and space with purpose through sensory experiences
3️⃣ Symbolic play — expanding on sensory and object-based play to express ideas and experiences
Read our latest blog post — link in bio! And keep an eye out — we’ll be doing a giveaway soon featuring some of our favorite symbolic play toys!

SECOND CHANCE SUNDAY
Ever wonder why anxious children can’t just think their way out of worry?
That’s because when the amygdala (the brain’s alarm system) takes over, the Prefrontal Cortex — the Problem-Solving Brain — goes offline.
This part of the brain is responsible for reasoning, decision-making, and problem solving. But in moments of fear or overwhelm, it simply can’t do its job.
Children aren’t being difficult or defiant — their brains are in survival mode.
First, they need safety and calm. Only then can the Problem-Solving Brain come back online.
Save this post as a reminder: regulation first, problem solving later.
