“Kimbikiipnidaman…” said Kim Biki, standing at the doorway with uneasy eyes, a bottle of wine in one hand.
I nodded, took the wine, and led him to his seat.

Even after sitting down, he glanced around nervously, as if something were wrong. I handed him a cup of warm coffee first. He took a sip—then immediately threw it against the wall.
The cup shattered, and the wall wore a new face of coffee brown.
While I wiped the wall with a dry cloth and picked up the broken glass, he began to slowly change shape.

His head moved toward the ceiling; his fingers twitched. His shoulders folded inward, then stretched outward, and the muscles in his thighs convulsed like high hats. He took one form, then another. He said he still hadn’t found the body that suited him.

“What I mean is, I still don’t fit perfectly into this world. And that perfect day will never come. Which means—we have to keep trying.”

“What do we have to try?” I asked.

Then he slid toward me, almost gliding across the floor, and knelt down in front of me. He lifted his head and opened his mouth wide.
