On this Juneteenth, I'm reflecting on the JOY we were able to experience earlier this month, executing the Zora's House JoyFest!! The weather tried to put a damper on things, but we still prevailed with outstanding vendors, food, live music, and activities at the Columbus Commons. Uplifting and supporting fellow women of color is both an honor and a responsibility that we don't take lightly! ✨️

Thank you LC Johnson, Kendra Asiedu, Alex Christmas-Stapleton, Shelby Williams, Tamaliyapo Mphande, and the entire ZH staff and Fellows for allowing us to come alongside and support this beautiful event. As LC stated in a previous post, "Joy is refusing to let injustice have the final word.... Joy is refusing to live as though survival is the highest thing we can hope for. Because we deserve more than survival. We deserve joy." 🩷💙

I can't believe it has been a week since One Columbus Culture Day! There were such beautiful performances from various cultures, delicious food, and valuable community resources for all to enjoy. Our gracious host the North YMCA Columbus was the perfect space!

We experienced cultural performances from Haiti, the Congo, Mexico, China, Bhutanese Nepali, Nigeria, Eritrea, Algeria (Berber Culture), Ethiopia, and Djibouti - all in one place! We are so fortunate to have such a variety of cultures represented in our city. The support each group had for one another was so inspiring.

It was our pleasure to come alongside the City of Columbus Department of Neighborhoods Columbus for the second year in a row for this event that showcases the creativity and vibrancy of our residents. Congratulations Abdi Soofe, Lindora Diawara, and the NALA Committee on an amazing event. Can't wait to make this bigger and better next year!! ✨️💃🏾🕺🏽🍲🎶🇨🇬🇭🇹🇲🇽🇨🇳🇩🇿🇳🇵🇪🇹🇪🇷🇩🇯🇸🇴🇺🇲
