As Women’s History month continues, we’d like to highlight one of the most influential female entrepreneurs at the turn of the 20th century, Maggie Lena Walker.

Mrs. Walker, an African-American born in Richmond, Virginia at the end of the Civil War, made history in 1903 by becoming the first woman to start a bank in the United States! She provided the Black community with access to the financial benefits they were being denied by White-run banks. Walker served in various leadership roles in her community, including serving as Vice President of the Richmond chapter of the NAACP. 🧮⚖️💵
